On Feb. 27, seniors Sidney Kisner and Layla Snively were honored by WV Secretary of State Kris Warner as Honorary Secretaries of State. The senior class at SMHS also received the Jennings Randolph Award for having over 85% of eligible seniors register to vote.
Principal Lori Barnhart and civics teacher Camaron Lancaster were also in attendance for the presentation of the award. Senator Trenton Barnhart and Delegate Betsy Kelly also joined to help welcome the students into the capital. WV Secretary of State Kris Warner took the students on a tour of the state capital, talked with them about his role in West Virginia, and presented them with a certificate. They were then recognized in the State Senate by Senator Trenton Barnhart.
