I have been a member of the WVUP Early College Program for the past three years. Being a member of this program comes with so many joys and pains. The joys most outweigh the pains. This is a program that I would highly recommend to any high school student. This program will give you the preparation you will need for college. The pros of being an Early College student are almost endless. First of all, the most obvious, you are getting a head start on college. You can knock out so many classes at a much cheaper price.
Another pro for me, if you are fortunate enough, you will get to take these classes for free because they are covered by a grant given to your high school. Another pro being you can graduate high school with a college certificate. Also, you might even be able to graduate college much earlier than anticipated. The cons of being an Early College student are very limited. There is slim to no cons of the early college program. One con being, when you first start these classes, you may feel a little behind or lost.
Another con being you will have much more work to than your fellow high school classmates. Another con that I did not realize till this year when I started looking into college is that you can use up so many of your electives and lose your eligibility to be considered a full-time student. These are the only cons that I have noticed.
