Monsters, Inc. is an animated Pixar film made in 2001 and is one my favorite childhood movies. The plot centers around Mike Wazowski and James Sullivan, the best scaring duo in Monstropolis, and are about the break the all-time scare record. They work at the Scare Floor, which produces energy for the whole city via children’s screams. Though, a little human girl, named Boo, enters the factory, and Sully and Mike must return her home safely without getting caught with her. This a comedy/adventure movie. I had watched this via DVD years ago when I was really little, but it’s also on Disney+ and so on nowadays.
Personally, I don’t find the plot all that confusing, as it’s just two monsters finding a girl and they try getting her home. I really did care about the characters, as they were hilarious and you’d want to root for our heroes, as well as the side characters. There is a prequel, called Monsters University, released in 2013, where it takes place when Mike and Sully were in college. Also, the acting was great, and the casting for these lovable characters were pretty much flawless. For the movie itself, the events were pretty believable. It brings topics around exploitation and corruption of industry.
No quotes seem to strike me that much, and I didn’t find any moments inaccurate according to the film itself. The special effects were engaging, and it looks pretty nice for a 2001 film! Honestly, the only trigger warnings I’d give is that there are jumpscares everywhere, and it can get pretty creepy sometimes for little kids. Honestly, pretty much only Monsters University is the only movie similar that I can think of. I learned from this movie that corporations aren’t as great as they seem, and don’t trust everyone you know. I personally recommend this movie to a family movie night or just a casual watch. I rate this movie a 7/10
