The Masters is the Super Bowl of golf. It is an annual golf tournament with the best of the best that lasts the first full week of April. It is the first major golf tournament of each year. The tournament is held in Augusta, Georgia at the Augusta National Golf Club. The tournament has many traditions, one of the biggest ones being the green jacket. The “Augusta green” jacket is awarded to the champion each year ever since the tradition started in 1949. The jacket signifies honorary membership into the club. Another main tradition is the Champions Dinner, which is held the Tuesday before the tournament and hosted by the previous year’s winner. When you win The Masters you receive the Green Jacket, a gold medal, a trophy, and a large cash prize normally being around 4-5 million. Second and third place contest also win a couple million dollars.
For the 2026 Masters Tournament, the winner was a back-to-back champion, Rory McIlroy. Rory is a Northern Irish professional golfer who plays on the PGA Tour. Rory McIlroy won the tournament by shooting 12 under par. This year’s Masters game was a close match, with American Scottie Scheffler only 1 stroke behind McIlroy. However, Rory McIlroy did make history by become the first person to repeat as Masters Champion since Tiger Woods in 2001-2002. McIlroy also set a new record by having the largest 36-hole lead in Masters history. The tournament was very exciting and brought approximately 40,000 to watch in person and around 13.99 million viewers on CBS.
