On Saturday, Aug. 31, the Blue Devil cross country teams traveled to Ona to compete in the annual Midland XC Festival. This race is ran on the state meet course at Cabell Midland High School. Due to numerous lightning and thunder delays, this night race was pushed back to an even later start. Out of 34 teams, our Blue Devils boys team placed 4th, winning 145 points. They were closely behind Elkins, the champions, Williamstown, the runner-up, and Charleston Catholic, who only beat them by 13 points. Max Dauch, top finisher on the team, placed 14th with a time of 17:32.38.18. Parker Barnes also finished in the top 20, securing the 18th spot with a time of 17:56.07. Other St. Marys’ scores were Bryce Bills in 28th, Reece Westfall in 44th, Jay Mote in 56th, Micah Evans in 85th, and Daniel Winland in 101st. In the other half of the meet, our Lady Devils placed 5th out of 30 teams, winning 128 points. Natalie Bartrug was able to break into the top 20, placing 18th with a time of 22:22.40. Behind her placed Maddie Smith in 31st, Savana Burd in 47th, Avry Bennet in 50th, Sidni Gerlock in 51st, and Brooklyn Davis in 65th. Our Lady Blue Devils put in a lot of work, allowing them to score and place as well as they did.
