Baseball Season Opener

Head Coach Terry Nichols lead the St. Marys Blue Devils to an incredible victory against Parkersburg Catholic. The Blue Devils scored 25 runs and played an errorless game against the Crusaders,, limiting their hits. This led us to a 25-1 victory to start the 2023 baseball season.
Nichols put the ball in the hands of Brady Illar in this season’s opener, this very talented senior responded by blanking parkersburg catholic over two hitless innings while striking out five players and walking only two. Freshman Casey Burkhammer came on to pitch the final three innings. He allowed one hit while fanning eight and walking one.
St.marys tagged Crusaders starter Hunter McKaughan for 18 runs over 1. The Devils led 6-0 after one inning of play. Then later exploded for the 17th run in the second frame. The Blue Devils then scored twice more in the third inning and the contest was halted two innings later because of the 10 run mercury rule.
Multiple players had a big game, leading was Sam Miller, who had two doubles, a triple and knocked in a career high six runs. Ean Kimball added three hits and drove in three runs. Josiah DeMoss, Landin Bunner and Illar also collected three RBI for the St. Marys Devils. This game not only marked the first of the season but the first actual game played on the newly revamped, fieldturf diamond at SMHS.
