St. Marys High School cross country teams were at the Camp Kidd 4-H Camp in Parsons for the Tucker County Invitational. In addition to St. Marys, four other schools participated in the race including East Hardy, Nicholas County, Pendleton County, and the hosts from Tucker County.
Both of our Blue Devils teams won their individual divisions and had several runners as the top placers in the 5K race.
In the girls’ division, St. Marys easily defeated their runner-up Nicholas County by 19-39. East Hardy, Pendleton County, and Tucker County did not have five runners completed the course and did not receive a team score.
One of our Lady Devils, Anna Bennett, ran away with top honors by finishing 1:20 ahead of runner-up Estoria Chase of Tucker County. Bennett ran the course in 20:04 and Chase crossed in 21:24. St. Marys also had the No. 3 and No. 4 placers in Maddie Smith in 22:13.03 and Savana Burd in 22:13.78. The remaining Lady Devil competitors were Sidni Gerlach in ninth place in 23:47.61, Brooklyn Davis in 23:56.60 and Mariah Whitlock in 11th in 24:53.17.
The Blue Devils’ boys scored 26 points to finish 12 points ahead of Tucker County with 38 points. Nicholas county placed third with 70 points, East Hardy and Pendleton County had incomplete teams.
Tucker County did have the top two individual placers in Lynk Suesli, who broke the tape at 17:12.86 and Cameron Judy, who followed behind at 17:26.22. The Blue Devils had the next three spots with Bryce Bills in third in 17:30.74, Parker Barnes in fourth in 17:43.13 and Desmond Parks in fifth in 18:13.65. St. Marys also had five cross the finish line. Carter Sole as seventh, Caden Kimball was ninth, Noah Mote was 10th, Roe Maston was 11th, and Wyatt Pane was 12th.
St. Marys will host the Little Kanawha Conference Championship as well.
