On Friday, Oct. 17, the St. Marys Blue Devils took on undefeated Magnolia Blue Eagles at home for a homecoming night win. The Blue Eagles hung with the Blue Devils in the first half despite watching the Blue Devils take the lead for good on their first possession of the contest. A 9-yard pass from Jeremiah DeMoss to Eli Cox kept the drive alive and set up Eli Wilson’s 1-yard touchdown run for the first score of the night. DeMoss ran for a two-point conversion and was successful and pushed the score to 8-0. Magnolia answered on the next play but did not get the two-point conversion and the score was 8-6 with 4:20 left in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Jeremiah DeMoss had a huge defensive play and intercepted a pass that led to his own 80-yard touchdown run. Wilson executed the two-point conversion, and the score was 16-6 at halftime. Magnolia got back on the board starting the second half and put the score to 16-14 making it a two-point game. This close contest started a fire in the Blue Devils, and they pulled away with scoring 20 unanswered points in the third quarter. Touchdowns being from Jeremiah DeMoss and Eli Wilson helped advance the score. Elijah Kimball later recovered his own on-side kick, that led to a touchdown two plays later by Wilson.
Eli Wilson and Jeremiah DeMoss were responsible for most of the Blue Devils offense having a combined of 270 yards. Wilson finished with 164 yards on 16 carries and DeMoss finished with 106 yards on 13 rushing attempts. St. Marys improve to 5-2 on the season and moved closer to locking in a spot in the Class A playoffs.
