I am reviewing “Avatar: The Way of Water.” This series first came out in 2009, and the second movie came out in 2022. This is a very popular movie that piques the interest of young adults and families. It is based in the world of Pandora which is a remote island filled with an atmosphere rich in nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide, and other gases including hydrogen sulfide, which humans are unable to breathe.
Jake Sully and Ney’tiri which are two Na’vi in this movie, have built a family and a home, but the threat finds its way back from the first movie and they must leave their home and explore the area of Pandora in search of refuge. They come across the Metkayina who are a reef-dwelling tribe, and they learn their ways of life to survive. The human threat finds them and a war breaks out. The movie is filled with vibrant bioluminescent plants and glowing animal prints.
This is one of my favorite parts of the movie, it is visually appealing and creates an ethereal feeling. The acting was also a factor that really impressed me while watching this film, the underwater scenes appeared to be realistic and believable. This movie is over three hours long but is incredibly good at maintaining the interest of viewers during this time and not feeling like the movie is being dragged on.
I would overall rate this movie a 9/10. This series has by far been my favorite since I was a child when the first one came out in 2009 and I have re-watched “Avatar: The Way of Water” many times.
