On Monday, April 7 five senior students signed up to join the military. Those students are Leland Barnhart and Carson Carl joining the U.S. Marine Corps. Tara Scoggan joining the U.S. Army, Austin Felter joining the U.S. Navy and Leila Utt joining the Army National Guard. The ceremony was held in the SMHS gym and started with the singing of “The Star – Spangled Banner” by the choir members Autumn Harper and McKenna Broce. Counselor Loura Rinard introduced the speakers, Joseph Cornell; a retired navy gave the welcoming address. Diane Corrigan gave a note from a military spouse. Jay mote brother of Zac Long now on active duty with U.S. Arm delivered a message from a sibling. Scott Kirby, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, delivered a message to students. The closing remark were made by officer Jason Reed, a U.S. Navy veteran.
