This year’s senior events for the graduating Class of 2025 started on April 23 when the class took their first senior trip to the Columbus Zoo. Students left for the trip at 7 a.m. and arrived home around 9:30pm.
That same week, on Friday, April 25 the seniors and juniors had Prom Promise. This event has station for students to rotate to so they can learn about different safety percautions and smart decision making for the night of prom. There were 11 stations some examples being learning about consent, learning about the effects of drug and alcohol and learning about abuse and having a safe adult. There were four guest speakers who came into to speak to the student and share their stories about home drugs or alcohol has impacted them in their lives.
That following Saturday, April 26 was the night of prom. It was held in Belmont at the Belmont community center. Prom queen Candidates were Lexi Webb, Kenzie Armstrong, Donna Collins, Bella Tagliarini, and Anna Kimball. Candidates for the prom king were, Ethan Bennett, Trent Renner, Tyler Dalrymple, Shelton Shields and Christian Brunner. The winners of Prom King and Prom Queen for 2025 were Donna Collins and Shelton Shields.
May 5– 8 are senior interviews, which are required for all seniors. May 9 is the College and Workforce Decision Day at 2:30 pm. in the SMHS auditorium. Parents, families and outside guest are permitted to attend, you can wear your college t-shirt and representatives may attend.
May 9 seniors must turn in all graduation speeches and scholarships are due, no exceptions. Scholarships are scheduled to be presented on May 19 and will only be awarded on that day.
May 10 is WVU-P Graduation. May 12– 15 will be senior exam week. On May 16 walking practice indoor/outdoor will be held. The senior final walk through elementary, middle, and high school has yet to be determined. Seniors are required to attend and be in their cap and gown. Students must be in the schools at 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Students are not permitted to leave for lunch or early that day. The Baccalaureate service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 18. This will also be the date for the senior picnic at the marina at 4 p.m. May 20 at 10am will be a walking practice outside. May 22 at 10 am walking practices will be held and required. May 24 is the alumni parade, with line-up at the Marina at 10 a.m.
Graduation is on Sunday, May 25. Students must be in professional dress cap and gown be ready no later than 6:20 pm. Report to SMHS auditorium. Following graduation: the senior All-Night Party will be held at PCMS. Report between 11 p.m. and 12 a.m. Students cannot leave once they arrive.
