The Blue Devil wrestling team rears up for the LKC and regional wrestling tournaments. They first put on a show in the Single A Challenge at Ritchie County High School in Ellenboro on the first of February. After competing against several other top wrestling teams St. Marys High School crown two individual champions and had eight other grapplers place in the top six of their respective weight classes. This resulted in St. Marys High School finished as the runner up in the final team standings when in the beginning they were only standing at seventh rank.
Some of the schools that the blue devils beat were the ranked teams of Greenbrier West, Wirt County, Midland Trail, and Ritchie County. Kage Winland and Alex Baltazar were the ones to give St. Marys their top highlights. Both of them won individual titles in the 126- and 285-pound weight classes. They both posted a perfect 3-0 records. Kage Winland won by a landslide technical foul of 16-0 in the 126-pound title. Baltazar was able to win the 285-pound title match by pinning down Midland Trail’s Kordell Brown. Coach Jay D. Smith was awarded the Matt Ashley Coach of the Year Award. Kyle Bullman and Elijah Kimball reached the championship finals as well.
