Poetry Out Loud is a poetry reciting competition. Contestants are graded on accuracy, delivery, and stage presence. The State competition takes place on February 28- March 1, 2025, at Charleston, WV. Last year, student Willow Peyton won Poetry Out Loud at the state level and placed 9th in the nation.
In the competition, contestants recite three poems. One must have been written pre-20th century, one must be less than 25 lines, and one can be anything. This year, student Emma Weikart will compete in Poetry Out Loud. Her poems are “I remember, I remember” by Thomas Hood, “Sonnet 29” by William Shakespeare, and “Against Distance” by Trey Moody.
