Students who attend schools nowadays use technology to do all of their work. Any assignment they are given is sent to them online. They turn papers and notes in online. Teachers even use online systems to teach students lessons. Are schools using too much technology in the learning environment?
It has been statistically proven that 94% of public schools in the United States provide technological devices to students. Results of a study done in 2024 show that students are spending around 6 hours on screens at school. This is highly alarming because this could impact students negatively. It can impact their health and development.
Students are using these devices to do things like get access to information for research, complete online assignments, take digitals notes, complete online tests/quizzes, submit work electronically, etc. However, for the long-term benefit of students, schoolwork should gradually transition back to simple paper and pencil work. Then, all schoolwork should be done like this.
There are so many benefits when students stray from technology. Traditional learning leads to better academic performance. It can also lead to improved memory and retention. Resorting to paper and pencil also eliminates most distractions that students would face online.
Schools need to stop promoting technology as much as they do and return to traditional learning with paper. There is no need for students to do all of their work online. Spending as much time on technology as they do, will just result in negative effects.
