SMHS AP Art students visited Carnegie Museum in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This trip was exclusive to National Art Honor’s Society (NAHS) and National Honors Society (NHS). The members of this society being either high school juniors or seniors. The two chaperones of the trip were St. Marys High School’s art teacher Mr. Semple and St. Marys High School’s English teacher Ms. Cook.
The members took a bus to the museum on Nov. 4, with the bus leaving the high school around 7:20 A.M. “The purpose was to let the students get exposed to the real artwork we talk about in class. To make direct connection to history and the real art experience, seeing it is like experiencing history and getting to be there in the moment.”
Mr. Semple said, “The Carnegie Museum is filled with several art pieces from different eras. It also has culture and historical artifacts from different civilizations and visitors are able to watch their workers restore different artifacts. The museum also offers many hands-on things to do as well as areas to sit down and just admire the exhibit.”
After the Carnegie visit the bus stopped by a local ice cream shop in Cannonsburg, Pennsylvania called Sarris Candy. Sarris Candy is a joint place of a stereotypical diner style of ice-cream shop and a candy shop. The hall that is between the two shops is decked out with different Christmas assortments. The bus did not make it back to the high school until almost 8:00 p.m.
