Today, children influencers are becoming more and more popular. When scrolling through any social media platform a child can be seen doing a skin care routine or a toy review. While it can be seen as cute and admirable that the younger generations are trying to be like the teenagers and young adults by how they act for the screen and the millions of invisible people that are watching them through their device. But the question at hand is should children even be able to become influencers at all and that can easily be answered with one word, no. The answer is no for a multitude of reasons being that every social media site has a minimum age limit, that there are pedophiles searching the sites constantly and their parents use their children for money.
The minimum age limit for any social media platform is at least thirteen. This should instantly discourage a child and whoever else might be involved should not even be on this site. The age limit is not just a number on the screen, it is just like movie ratings or carnival rides. Thus, meaning that a child is too young for the site it is for safety reasons because the site can and most likely will include topics about sensitive subjects like death, suicide, same sex marriage and more.
Another reason why children cannot be influencers is because there are constantly predators on the internet constantly searching for their next victim. When a child is an influencer that just makes them easy pickings for the predator. Children influencers are encouraged to interact with their fans, and they would never know if the fan they are talking to could be a kid or someone trying to abduct them.
Finally, more times than not a child influencer is most usually a child that did something funny on their parents’ account and now the parents only see their child as a dollar sign. The parents exploit their child on the internet feeding them lines and telling them to act and dress a certain way so that they can attract more income in for the family. This all ties in with the pedophiles that constantly lurk on the web because they can easily pay money for their fantasies to be played out on the internet.
A child that is an influencer is an extremely detrimental environment that constantly puts the child at risk. Other children will see their platforms and not understand that the child is putting on a show and avoid them or even make fun of them just for doing something that their parents have forced them to do for years. Then when the child grows up and understands what has all been done to them, they will resent their parents and cut all contact. Parents that truly love their children would never exploit them.
