In the world today as young adults and teenagers we have a lot of digital things. This doesn’t make like “simpler”, but it does make it faster in some areas. With one touch you can figure out how to do a lot of things, but several students leave high school without the knowledge of what some would call “simple and common” things to know. For many students it’s not common to know.
Students should be made to take a world skills class where you learn how to write a check, understand the difference between debit and credit or even how to answer professional calls. Lots of students must figure this out on their own and then have bad credit because they didn’t even understand what that means to begin with.
Now yes, some students do learn that weather at home or other resources, but some don’t have that opportunity to do that. Some need to learn it at school maybe because their parents don’t know either. For some this will seem like a unnessasary class but for others it will be a time to understand the life skills they need to have to live.
School teaches us calculus, physical education or even history. Not to say these are not important because they are, but we leave high school and have to know things we were never taught. Schools should prioritize world skills, so they are confidents that their students know how to do basic life skills.
