Music and art are something that has been along for a long time, both show art in some type of way. That might be visual or just hearing the melody and appreciating it for the art for it is. Furthermore, what if we took them and formed them into one thing? That would be dance. You have the music and art on the stage. As a dancer you take these beautiful pictures with your body. You get the opportunity to entertain and show off a skill. That’s said a lot of dancers put more than just meets the eye into dance.
Maddie Steele a student at St. Marys High School who also does dance competitively has a different take on why she dances. “I dance for the feeling of adrenaline when taking the stage with my teammates, and just absolutely crushing the dance. Just knowing how proud my team is of me, makes me feel like I have a home with them.”
Dance has such an emotional pull on some people, along with dancing with a team. You never know how powerful a team can be until you experience it for yourself. Katie Lawrence tells me how she feels connected to our dance class at high school. “It makes me feel like I’m part of the dance family.” These two students feel dance in the same but different way. Dance is a place where everyone can feel welcomed and involved.
