Hairspray is a musical released in 2007. This is the adaptation of the 1988 movie of hairspray that went on Broadway in 2002 and ended in 2009. The movie follows a dance loving teen Tracy Turnblad. Tracy, who is played by Nikki Blonsky, wants to make it big on the “Corny Colins Show” and, just like that she becomes an overnight success and role model for girls everywhere.
With her new fame she tried to bring racial integration onto the show. Will she do it or will she fall back into the shadows? I watched the movie for the first time in my house in Roane County with my family. This movie is a musical romantic comedy, making it a great movie for family movie night.
Watching the movie, I fell in love with a lot of the characters I saw on the screen. They all overcame a lot in the movie and, but Tracy defiantly won me over with everything she had to fight through. The comments of her weight, how she is defending racial integration, or how she would never make it big. The takeaway from this movie is being comfortable over your own body, being open minded, and respecting everyone no matter what they look like.
Although there is not a second movie, this movie is so captivating I wanted to just keep watching it over and over. This movie is one of my favorite movies and everything is so spot on from the music to acting so ten out of ten from me.
