How Food Affects Your Mood
What you eat throughout the day has a huge impact on how you feel for the rest of the day. The term comfort food is one that has been used to label food that makes us feel good. This can include chocolate, mashed potatoes or macaroni and cheese. Unfortunately, comfort foods tend to be ones that have a negative impact on our health and well-being. We think that these foods make us happy, but they make our bodies sad.
Fueling your body with the right food can help you maintain a healthy mood. If you skip a meal or just don’t eat, you can be put into a bad mood because you’re hungry. Foods that boost your mood include: proteins, vitamins and fiber. All of these foods just mentioned create the feel good chemical, called serotonin, which is known to reduce mood swings.
Many different foods can make your mood change. Foods that make you feel happy include: berries, avocado, chicken, salmon and yogurt. Foods can even help to control tempers such as spinach, potatoes, beans and mushrooms. Foods that make you feel sad include: fried foods, turkey, caffeine and nuts. These foods mentioned work in scientific ways. The chemicals in them is what makes you feel different ways.
Mrs. Shelley Taylor likes to eat M&Ms because she sorts them, so they make her feel organized. Mrs. Rinard likes the orange fluff that we have here at the school, it makes her dance and feel happy. Ms. Travers likes gathering with her family and eating a family dinner. Mrs. Rinard and Ms. Travers like to eat at family events because it makes them feel good when being near family. Many foods bring back memories and remind them of their childhood. Lots of families that are food-oriented make foods that make them feel good and bring happiness.
Along with the foods that make you feel happy and bring memories there are also foods that can affect you negatively such as turkey, since everyone knows that turkey makes you tired. Fast food is also known to make people feel bad; not only is it bad for you but its bad for your mood also. So, be sure to fuel your body with food that makes both your mind and body feel empowered!
