Senior Willow Peyton was recognized on Monday, May 6 at 10am in the SMHS auditorium. This day was dedicated in her honor due to her numerous successes this year and her contributions to SMHS.
Willow Peyton, has been instrumental in changing the culture surrounding the arts at SMHS as well as making a positive impact in the county as well as the MOV. She competed at the National Poetry Outloud competition as the WV State Poetry-Out Loud champion. She made it to the top nine in the nation.
She was the first West Virginia State Shakespeare Competition Champion and then competed and was the RUNNER-UP in the National Shakespeare Competition at the Lincoln Center in NYC. She’s been a student director for the SMHS Theater productions as well as winning the WV State Thespian Festival’s Overall All-Festival Outstanding Actor and starring in the SMHS Thespian Troupe’s Outstanding-One Act which placed in the top five of the entire state. And, this is just her theatre work at SMHS! She’s also an accomplished artist and has won numerous state honors. She also is very active in the MOV theater scene and works with the Parkersburg Actor’s Guild and is featured on their mural.
On May 6, she performed her award winning Shakespearean monologue and poems and to speak about all of the opportunities in the arts at SMHS as well as the MOV and state. Several State representatives of the Arts were in attendance, as well as her family and friends. After honoring her, she
was taken on a tour to perform for students at our elementary and middle schools.
