In honor of Valentine’s Day being this week, the latest rom com movie I watched is “The Proposal.” I rewatched it for the hundredth time this past week on Hulu. “The Proposal” came out in 2009 and is a romantic comedy film directed by Anne Fletcher. It stars Sandra Bullock as Margaret Tate, a book editor, and Ryan Reynolds as Andrew Paxton, her assistant who dreams of being promoted to editor.
Set in New York City, Margaret is faced with deportation back to Canada, where she must leave her job for at least a year. To avoid this, she stages a fake relationship and proposal with her assistant to stay in the country. In return, Andrew will be promoted and is able to visit his family in Alaska for the weekend, since she never gives him time off work to do so. They go to Andrew’s hometown for the weekend together to convince the immigration official, who doesn’t believe them, that they are “in love.”
Despite many obstacles, the two must convince everyone they are truly engaged, as they go from enemies to true lovers throughout the movie. I really enjoy this movie and have watched it multiple times. I would recommend it to anyone who loves rom coms, as it is one of my top five. I would rate it a 9/10.
