The Greenbrier Resort is known worldwide as an iconic golf resort for West Virginians and others worldwide. It is famed for hosting the 1979 Ryder Cup; this tournament is one of the most famous ones in the world. It happens twice a year, and to host it is a great honor.
The Greenbrier is recently known for being a PGA Tour event host site, where they played once a year from 2010 to 2019. This course has a storied history, but with the rising LIV Golf Tour, they were now missing something: an annual tournament for the new league. This all changed with the LIV Golf Tour announcing they would be returning to the Greenbrier in 2023.
The tournament in early August was a lot of fun to attend and watch. The LIV Tour events are three-day tournaments that span from Friday to Sunday. The entrance was very cheap and gave access to a lot of resources and amenities. The tournament had entertainment such as skydivers, fan areas with games and such, and inside areas to cool off.
In terms of the tournament, it was a historic one to say the least. Bryson Dechambeau shot 61-58 to record the lowest 36 holes in LIV Golf History and the lowest single round score. Unfortunately, I was not there for the last day, so I missed his historic final round.
The Greenbrier is an iconic resort that is renowned for iconic golf and great tournaments. They are doing great with the LIV Tour, and I am excited for the opportunity to come back this August again.
