St.Marys stayed with the top-ranked class AA team for a quarter last Wednesday evening, but the rival Williamstown took control in the middle two periods and coasted to an 82-48 victory over the host Blue Devils. The Little Kanawha Conference foes traded punches during the first eight minutes with Williamstown forging a four-point, 19-15, advantage. The Yellowjackets heightened up the pressure in the second quarter and began to pull away. They outscored the Blue Devils 23-8 to build a 19-point lead at halftime, 42-23.
Any hope of a St.Marys come back was beat out in the third quarter as Williamstown used a 25-12 advantage to continue its lead to 67-35. Both teams play on more even terms in the fourth quarter as the Yellowjackets put the finishing touches on the 34-point win. Carson Hill knocked down five three-pointers and was on of the three Williamstown players with 20 or more points. Parker Schramm paced the Yellowjackets with 25 points and Jayden Bryant added 21 points to the scoreboard. Hill had 20 points. Williamstown continued to 3-0 with the victory. St.Marys saw its record square at 2-2 with the setback.
Junior Preston Lawhon provided a bright spot on Wednesdays loss for St.Marys. He swished four three-pointers and send scored a team-high 14 points. Senior Shane Moran also struck for double-figures with 10 points. The Blue Devils scoring was completed by Wyatt Pinkerton with nine points, Brody Rice with seven points, Ashton Boron with four points and Ryan Kent with three points. Pinkerton also had five rebounds and Boron had five assists.
