The death penalty has been a punishment used since before recorded history, and it has had some very negative effects. In current jail systems, the death penalty was issued to people who killed others, or committed a very, very extreme crime, and they needed to bring justice to them.
There are many issues with the death penalty. It is very expensive to complete a case and follow through with the execution, even more expensive than housing them until the pass away naturally. Additionally, the death penalty is a traumatic experience for all of those involved. For the officers, attendees, and the relatives of the one being killed, it is a very scary experience and can often lead to PTSD or similar disorders.
In considering the severe effects and disadvantages of practicing the death penalty, it is clear that we should end the practicing of it. It is a harm to the family, officers, and others that are there, and it costs more to process the penalty than it does to give them a life sentence. The death penalty has been a punishment brought upon the greatest lawbreakers in recent history, and it has no real advantages, so why continue it any longer?
