Junior Logan Eddy had a great night on the ground, and ninth-ranked (class A) St. Marys made short work of Magnolia Friday night. Eddy rushed for 139 yards on only seven carries as the Blue Devils celebrated homecoming with a Score of 47-6. The win improved the Blue Devils to a 6-1 record, securing their 17th winning season in 22 years under head coach Jodi Mote. The Blue Devils were never challenged by the Blue Eagles, as Eddy and his teammates recorded their second straight lopsided decision since a narrow 12-8 setback to defending state champion Williamstown on the final Friday in September.
St. Marys leading rusher, Ashton Boron, had a light workload for the night. Boron still managed to gain 72 yards on seven carries. He got St. Marys initial possession, starting with 21 yards around the left end. This drive ultimately covered 71 yards in six plays. Eddy started the night off when he broke off a 34-yard scoring run to the right corner of the end zone. Sam Miller connected on the first of his five successful extra-point kicks to give the Blue Devils a 7-0 lead.
St. Marys defense also connected on Magnolia’s next possession and stuffed Mathew Anderson for a no-gain on a fourth-and-one play on the 37-yard line. St. Marys struck quickly as Ryan Kent threw 36 yards to Jake Delancey to set up a one-yard scoring plunge for Josiah DeMoss. St. Marys broke the contest open in the second quarter. St. Marys put together three scoring drives to get a 34-0 lead at halftime.
DeMoss took the opening play after halftime. He took the first direct snap and drove up to the end zone. About 6 minutes later, senior Shane Moran leaped over a defender to get an 18-yard touchdown. Another big play by Eddy scored for St.
Marys in the second half. St. Marys final points came at the 6:50 mark in the fourth courter. The game was stopped with about two minutes left because Hunter Cooley from Magnolia was hurt in action and taken from the field.
