The football has evolved quite a lot from being filled with organs and made out of a pig’s bladder and calfskin to being the ball it is today. After a good amount time it finally changed to a more spherical shape which got changed more a few years later to be shorter. The laces on a ball didn’t get put on till around 1920 the same year the shape was changed and passing was then becoming more prominent due to this. This also brought out the phrase of throwing a perfect spiral. The length of the ball after that one change has not been changed since and is about 11 inches.
With the ball how it is today and after its final big changes it has only had a few minor changes with grip and better lacing. Now they are experimenting with getting technology in the ball to provide data to the referees and players. The evolution of the ball has shaped the game to be what it is and will continue to be upgraded in the future. Especially with the new technology they are trying to use and the help it would give to referees. SMHS Junior Trent Renner says that the new technology could be very helpful with keeping stats in his opinion.
