“Hacksaw Ridge” is a drama movie about a young adult man named Desmond Doss going into the army, but he refuses to even touch a gun. He has many good reasons to not do this from the reasons shown later in the movie and what happened with him and his brother when they were rough housing. He does become a medic though after going through a very troublesome time in boot camp, with problems with his peers and superior officers. This all leads to him making a miracle come true that every other man believed to be impossible.
The movie takes place in Okinawa during WWII, which was one of the bloodiest battles to happen in the pacific. It is also based on a true story of the real Desmond Doss, who you see at the end of the movie. The actor who portrays him is Andrew Garfield and he put on what is believed to me to be one of his best performances ever. The movie showed the reality of the war not just the happy side of it which is also why it is R rated with many graphic sequences. I would not recommend this movie for a family night but more a personal movie to watch if you like drama or historical movies. With one of the easiest plots to follow and a very good watch if I were to give a rating out of ten I would give it at least an eight for its realistic qualities and great plot line along with acting to go along with it.
