Obsession with Weight Loss
In today’s world many young women think they have to be perfect. This is due to the fashion and entertainment industries super-thin stars serving as role models along with bullying. Because of these issues women from grade 5th-12th hate what they see in the mirror and try to change it. This leads to unhealthy dieting and exercise to lose as much weight as possible.
Bullying has a major part in weight loss for women. In middle school or high school if you don’t look a certain way you get called names, never be included with your peers, you’re scared to eat at school, etc. Many don’t eat at school and just eat one meal a day because they think it’ll help.
Due to the unhealthy habits many girls end up with an eating disorder, mostly anorexia. Anorexia is a life threatening condition that causes obsession with thinness leading to even more severe dieting and excessive weight loss.
Yes, many girls want to look like a supermodel or even a movie star and it’s a problem. The fashion and entertainment industries need to do better and be more open minded about casting normal sized to plus sized models or actors for their things. Students need to do better as well, just because someone is bigger than you doesn’t mean they are any less of a person.
