Blue Devils Win Homecoming Game
On homecoming night, the football team faced off against Magnolia. Josh Roush was marked as the man, but that didn’t phase him. Magnolia’s defense thought they could slow him down; the junior halfback was up to the challenge and ran for a career high 281 yards and 26 carries scoring four touchdowns as St.Marys made short work of the Blue Eagles at the Hanlin Stadium. Josh Roush kicked through the second half getting 182 yards and scoring three times to give the Blue Devils a score of 34-7 calling it a game. St. Marys got their second win in a row, putting the Blue Devils over the 500 mark for the first time and giving them a 4-3 record this season.
It was an amazing night for the homecoming court as well. At halftime, Destany Price was crowned the 68th Belle of St. Marys. Destany is the daughter of Rocky and Jessie Price of St. Marys. Destany’s escort for the evening was Brandon Lawhon.
After Halftime, Josh Roush stepped in to take over. Josh Roush brought his team faith and darted through a hole on the right side of the line, cutting the sideline and turning on the wide receiver Brayden Vargo, Mirandys PAT cut St. Marys’ lead to 27-7.
The Blue Devils’ defense would take care of it the rest of the way. The Blue Eagles turned the ball over on their last two possessions; Josh Roush fell on a fumble and Brady Illar intercepted a Mirandy pass. This was just one of the four turnovers for St. Marys during the night. Josiah DeMoss recorded an interception with Evan Doehring recovering a fumble.
Josh Roush gave an excitement to the crowd with the score 27 points with the last few minutes of the clock running down. At the 2:28 countdown Josh Roush burst through the line of scrimmage and won the race with one of the Magnolia players. Josh Roush for a 49-yard score. After giving another touchdown for the Blue Devils he kicked an extra point to give St. Marys a 21-0 lead less than two minutes into the second half. The blue devils had no challenge the rest of the way.
In the third quarter, Peyton Girard blocked a punt from the Eagles making the ball run out at the 1 yard line. Josh Roush then went into the endzone with the lineman’s help from Riley Boley and Ben Wagstaff. The 6-yard TD extended the lead to 27-0 at the 7:57 mark of the third period. Magnolia only scored their only points a little after and then later on there quarterback Brendan Mirandy scored from 17 yards out on a throw back pass from yard score. The final score came down to 34-7 with the Blue Devils having another successful game.
