St. Marys went on to beat Trinity in their double header with them last week. The Blue Devils got strong pitching performances in both games and did more than enough damage at the plate as they swept Trinity with a mercy rule in both games. St. Marys improved to 2-1 with the victories and was scheduled to travel to Ellenboro to take on Ritchie County Tuesday. Brady Illar was impressive in his first mound start of the season as St. Marys took down the Warriors 12-2 in the opening game. Illar fanned seven and scattered three hits over 4 ⅓ innings of work to earn the win. He gave away to Jason Clayton, who struck out the final two batters to set the stage for the mercy rule triumph for the Blue Devils.

St. Marys took the lead with three runs in the second inning and tacked on six runs in the bottom of the fourth before polishing off the win with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Wyatt Norman and Ethan Davis both collected two hits and knocked in a pair of runs to highlight St. Mary’s nine-hit effort at the plate. Illar helped his own with a run scoring hit and Brayden Wilson and Josiah DeMoss both recorded RBI doubles. Sam Miller also ripped a two-bagger for the Blue Devils. Miller was the story in the second game as the freshman allowed only one hit and picked up the mound with his varsity debut.
