Channel 5

Channel 5

“Channel 5,” is a children’s tv program in Mexico that plays content purchased from nickelodeon and cartoon network. They have a verified twitter page that tends to post disturbing content at the later hours around 2-3 am just to remove said videos before dawn. Mexican news stations have reached out to the creator of “Channel 5” with questions about the disturbing posts made but they claim to have no idea of what’s going on. One of the unsettling videos posted was followed by the text which reads “selene”.
Many people believe it is a reference to a missing person which was broadcasted on the “Channel 5” programs. Nobody understands why the image of selene was so unsettling but it stuck with many children. This was during the time when channel five would interrupt the normal children’s shows with a broadcast of missing people in hopes to receive some information of where they could have gone. Anyways, the unsettling video titled selene brought more attention to channel five because of the missing person broadcast with the image of selene that was unsettling to children. Many of the disturbing videos uploaded to channel five were actually just reuploaded videos that have been on the internet for a while.
Spanish news site “Merca2.0” suggests that this is most likely a media stunt because of the amount of attention that “Channel 5” has received because of these videos. Many people don’t see the issue with this because it’s common for some channels to broadcast kids shows then more adult shows at the later hours. Similar to how cartoon network airs shows for kids during the day then switches to Adult Swim at the later hours.
I personally believe that even though this is a very interesting thing to research and try to understand, it’s most likely just a media stunt to bring in more viewers to “Channel 5.”
